We’ve already seen utilitarian clothing embedded with solar panels and it was only a matter of time before the fashion industry set its sights on incorporating solar power into trendy clothing designs.
SilvrLining, which describes itself as a progressive, green, design-driven fashion company, has released the GO Collection which it says is “dynamic, urban outerwear for modern people featuring integrated solar power for personal mobile devices”.
Thin film solar panels are incorporated into the the front pockets of the GO Director’s Jacket, Utility Vest, Myer’s Topper, and side cargo pockets of the GO Cargo Pant. Designed for charging of personal media devices, the solar panels can also be used as self-contained chargers and are USB 2.0 (ANSI) compliant.
The GO Solar Power System contains a solar regulator and energy reservoir connected in between the solar panel and the device under charge (DUC). The regulator and reservoir provide the DUC with a highly stable voltage and current compliant with the requirements of the mobile device.
The fabric used in the line is Ultrasuede (TM), an animal friendly, lightweight fabric that Silvr Lining says is rugged, stain resistant and easy to wash and dry. Ultrasuede is made with 100% recycled ultra-microfiber reconstituted from such post-industrial material as scrap polyester film.
As for pricing, the cargo pants in the image above are USD $920.
For something a little cheaper in the way of solar clothing without the urban chic influence, check out the solar vest we covered in July last year – comparatively a bargain at AUD $150.
